Overview
The United States (US) National Weather Service (NWS) publishes meteorological data on the Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System (MADIS) website. The following links are useful:
- MADIS home page
- 1-Minute ASOS Data - real-time weather data including precipitation
- One Minute ASOS Precipitation Inventory - explains precipitation collection
- Notes - MADIS Surface Variables - explanation of MADIS data format
- MADIS Surface Variables - 1-minute ASOS - list of 1-minute variables
See also the following form to query data:
MADIS data are not currently available in a web services interface.
Therefore data must be harvested using, for example, the cgi-bin
URL generated using the form from above.
Standard NovaStar Properties
The downloaded station data must be mapped to NovaStar by defining stations and points and using an appropriate data import program.
Limitations
- Need to describe SHEF support limitations in NovaStar.
Importing Data into NovaStar
See the Data Import Overview documentation.
A TSTool software workflow can be used to download data and format for NovaStar data import.
Exporting Data from NovaStar
The MADIS data format is not typically used by other software. Data can be export from NovaStar in other formats.
