NovaStar Program Reference / Install / Overview
Install programs are used to install and update NovaStar software.
Introduction
NovaStar software installation is typically handled by TriLynx staff to ensure proper installation. The NovaStar core software is installed using a self-extracting executable, which:
- installs and configures necessary Linux system software
- installs and configures NovaStar software
- updates the database to implement enhancements
NovaStar Installer
Since version 5.1.4.8, NovaStar is distributed as a self-extracting "run" file, which updates the entire core system and also installs the Administrator. The installer file has a name similar to the following, which identifies the operating system, architecture, NovaStar version, and build date.
novastar5install-debian-stretch-amd64-5.2.1.0-2103041248.run
See the novastar5install
documentation.
Checking the NovaStar Installation
Run the nscore
program to check the NovaStar installation.
This program calls the install-novastar.bash
program.
These tools are used to troubleshoot system problems.
NovaStar Installer Prior to 5.1.4.8
Prior to version 5.1.4.8, an icon was available on each NovaStar node desktop to run the update process, which used self-extracting installer filenames similar to the following. This approach is no longer used due to the need for TriLynx staff to ensure that NovaStar installers are run correctly.
